Celebrated by PUBLICE AWARENESS PROGRAM ON CARING FOR THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED (SPECIAL) CHILDREN ON 18 Dec, 2009. Sh. Tikshan Sud, Cabinet Minister Parliamentary Affairs, Medical Education & Research, Forest & Wild Life Preservation was the Chief Guest.
S. Navjot Singh Sidhu (MP) was the Guest of Honor.
Sh. Balram Ji Das Tandon (Ex Local Body Minister, Punjab ) was the Special Guest.
Sh. K.S. Pannu, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Sh. Anil Joshi, Director National Trust also graced the occasion.
The Theme of the Seminar was MISSION OF HOPE – HOPE bring HOPE.
A large rally consisting of students, teachers from the University, Various colleges and schools of Amritsar participated in a big way. The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, SH K. S. Pannu and Mayor of Amritsar, Sh. Shwait Malik.
Rotary District Governor 2009-10 Rtn K.C. Kalra was the chief guest on the fifth anniversary of the institute. Inauguration of SENSORY EQUIPMENT was performed amidst Gaytari Hawan. A very interesting cultural function was held for the children of GICD.
Conference on current & future trends in Cerebral Palsy & Autism under the Theme MISSION OF HOPE was convened on 2nd Dec, 2007. Chief Guest was VC, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar Sh. Jairoop Singh, Padam Shri, Sh. Vijay Chopra, Chief Editor Punjab Kesri, Mayor Sh. Shwait Malik, Sh Anil Joshi, MLA, Rotary Governor 2007-08 Dr S.P.S. Grover were Special Guests in this occasion.
Dr Arun Mukherjee, from Delhi, Dr. B.L. Goel were speakers amongst many others.
A Seminar on SPEECH IMPAIRMENT, AUTISM and HEARING LOSS held at DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL, Amritsar, along with Rotary Clubs of Amritsar. CHIEF GUEST ON THIS SEMINAR was Mr. DPS KHARBANDA, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation. Dr. K.S. Manchanda, a leading Child Specialist talked about early identification of symptoms of hearing loss, and asked the parents to be aware of even the slightest symptoms in their child. Dr. Hardas Singh talked about orthopedic disability. Dr. Karan Sharma talked about treatment of hearing loss.
The Seminar was followed by MEDICAL and HEARING and SPEECH camp. Nearly 100 children were thoroughly checked by the panel of expert doctors.
IAP CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH CARE WEEK CELEBRATIONS on the TOPIC MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH was held on 15th Nov, 2008 at children ward Amritsar.
LAUNCHING OF COMPUTER EDUCATION & INSTALLATION of new computer by Rotary District Governor 2008-09 Rtn Dr Vinod Sharma.
SEMINAR on CEREBRAL PALSY in association with 3 Inner wheel clubs of Amritsar. The Chief Guest was Dr. Madhu Nagpal, Head Dept of OBG, Amritsar.

FANCY DRESS COMPETITION among the Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Mentally Retarded, and Multiple Disabled Children was held. Prizes were given to children. CHIEF GUEST was S.NAVJOT SINGH SIDHU (MP) AMRITSAR.
Association of parents of Special Children has been formed by the name of AMRIT PARIVAR ASSOCIATION. This association guides and helps the parents in creating awareness regarding any aspect of care of special children. The Chief Patron of the association is Mr. K.S. PANNU, D.C. Amritsar. Patron is chairman of GICD, Mr. Arun Khanna.
SPECIAL OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION of SPECIAL CHILDREN has been formed. A SPORTS event was organized at DAV Public School. Children from all over North India participated. Prizes were given. The Chief Patron is Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, and the Patron is Mr. Arun Khanna.
GICD willing to usually hold events jointly with PINGALWARA, AMRITSAR, BBK RED CROSS.
JOINT EFFORT-ECO and SOCIAL GROUPS OF AMRITSAR is a group of 12 NGO’S. Each NGO holds an event once a year. Hence 12 important events are held by this group in a year. GICD celebrates world disabled day in December, every year.
ORTHOPEDICS DIABILTY CHECKUP and free surgery done by Dr. Hardas Singh, Orthopedics Surgeon. Free medicines are given by GICD.
